David and Rachel (Selle) Baker serve the Lord and the LCMS as missionaries in Kazakhstan. David was ordained in 2005 after serving a two-year vicarage in Kazakhstan. David's responsibilities include leading Bible studies, discipling new Christians, training group leaders and pastoral candidates, and helping develop Christian resources in the Kazakh language. David and Rachel previously served as volunteer missionaries in Poland from 1998 to 2000.

Wisconsin is home to the Baker family, though both David and Rachel have spent significant portions of their lives abroad and across the United States. David, as a “military kid,” was born in Australia, and later lived in Iceland and several U.S. states. As a “missionary kid,” Rachel lived in the Philippines, where her parents, Robert and Penny Selle, were missionaries with the LCMS.

David and Rachel both graduated from Concordia University, Seward, Neb.—David with a bachelor’s degree in music and Rachel with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a director of Christian education certificate with a concentration in music. During David’s time at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., Rachel taught at an area Lutheran school. Their daughter Julia joined the family in 2003, and son Timothy arrived in 2004.

The Bakers ask for prayers “that the hearts of the  of Jesus Christ and that God would raise up leaders from among the Kazakh people.”
