Donald A. Birkett, 77, of Burlington, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born July 19, 1930 to Wilmer and Alena (nee Haas) Birkett. He spent his early life and was educated in Colby. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On Sept. 20, 1958 he married Nancy Kunkel in Merrill.
Don was a dairy farmer in Merrill. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill. He enjoyed visiting with people, traveling and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Nancy Birkett of Burlington, son, Arnold Birkett of Virginia Beach, VA, daughter, Kristine (Tom) Heeg of Beloit, grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Rosa, Zachary and Megan Heeg, sister, Blanche Bollert, brother, Wayne (Verna) Birkett and sister-in-law, Mildred Birkett. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant granddaughter, Maria Heeg, brother, Willis, sisters, Wilma and Esther and brother-in-law, Jerry Bollert.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 10:00AM at Maurer Hall at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove with Ron Tichy officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at So. WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
