Ash Wednesday

The Season Lent Begins on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.

During the Ash Wednesday service the pastor takes ashes on the end of his thumb and makes the sign of the cross on the forehead worshipers, saying these words: "Remember: you are dust, and to dust you shall return."  This ancient act is a gesture of repentance and a powerful reminder of our need for the cleansing of our sin.  The sign of the cross on the forehead of the worshipper is also a sign of hope and release from sin freely given by our Lord through his work on the cross.

Worship Reflects Jesus’ Life

Worship at Our Savior is a reflection of Jesus’ life. Holy Week is a time of remembering and returning to God's Word in order to think about the greatest mystery: the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord for the forgiveness of our sins. In the solemnity and somberness of the week, we gather on Palm Sunday to celebrate his triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

Festival of Sacred Music Dec 7 at 4:00pm

Eighth Annual Festival of Sacred Music next Sunday, December 7 at 4:00pm

Two thousand years ago Jesus, the long awaited Messiah, was born in a little town of Bethlehem. Not in a palace, not draped in silken woven cloth, but in a dusty stable wrapped in plain, cotton swaddling cloth.   A star beamed the way for the shepherds who lay in the fields and the wise men who came from afar to visit the newborn King.

So do we here at Our Savior Lutheran shine a little ray of Bethlehem as we once again present our Eight Annual Festival of Sacred Music next Sunday, December 7 at 4:00pm. Not in a grand cathedral, not in a large city, but in our small town Burlington heralding Christ’s birth in our very own beautiful church.

In the past years we have been blessed with many people coming to the Festivals from “afar” who have enjoyed the programs which have lifted and filled their spirits with the joy of the season.   However, it is always so wonderful for the choir to see “our family” among the sitting listeners. So please come next Sunday and be a part of the Festival with us. The music is beautiful, the refreshments are delicious and the concert lasts about one hour leaving plenty of time to be home early on Sunday evening.

Blessings to all
Jeannine Chapdelaine Rath, Choir Director

A Church Building Makeover
By Pastor Rob - Friday, January 19, 2007 :: 1484 Views :: 0 Comments :: Article Rating :: Pastors Paragraphs

It is exciting to move into a renovated church.  Our building, constructed in 1965, has given us more than forty years of excellent use.  But, as it goes with even the best of structures, our sanctuary showed its age with bubbling carpet, peeling paint and pews, dim lighting, and other concerns.  So now we have a “church makeover” so to speak.
